35th Anniversary of Indian Naval Ship Kumbhir

Port Blair, Aug 31: Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kumbhir, a Polnocny class Landing Ship Tank Medium (LSTM) under the operational control of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) has completed 35 years of glorious service to the Nation on 31 Aug 21. The ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Gdynia, Poland on 31 Aug 86.

INS Kumbhir has been in the forefront of amphibious operations in the ANC Area of Responsibility and has participated in all major exercises till date.’Kumbhir’ has been named after a species of Indian crocodile. The ship’s crest design depicts an Indian crocodile on a brown coastline with blue and white sea waves. Her motto ‘Shoorveer Paramveer Kumbhir’ has been a source of inspiration for its personnel to maintain courage and fighting spirit.
