Member of Parliament demands starting of DD News Bureau in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Port Blair, Aug 31: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has demanded to open a bureau of DD news in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located far away from mainland India and this is why often prominent issues of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are not highlighted in National media.

He pointed out that not only prominent public issues but also various developmental activities undertaken by the Government of India and Andaman and Nicobar Administrations are also not highlighted at the national level, even though these issues deserve national-level coverage.

The Member of Parliament informed the Minister that opening a bureau in Andaman and Nicobar Island will not be a difficult task for Doordarshan, considering that Doordarshan already has a strong base in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, known as DDK Port Blair.

The MP mentioned that opening of Andaman and Nicobar Bureau of DD News will not only give this UT, a national level news coverage but will also promote Tourism Industry of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which has suffered a heavy loss because of Covid 19 pandemic. According to the MP, the opening of a Bureau of DD News in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, will also give employment to several youths in the post of computer operators, camera persons, part-time correspondents etc.

He mentioned that thousands of Islanders of A & N Islands, are presently living in different parts of India and if news of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are covered in DD News, they will be able to remain up to date about developments in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
