Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee remembered on the 21st anniversary of his Martyrdom

Port Blair, July 20: Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee was remembered on the 21st anniversary of his Martyrdom in a solemn gathering at PBMC’s Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee Park, Junglighat.  His life was commemorated by reading a citation and floral tributes were paid by the Secretary, PBMC, Joint Secretary, PBMC and Officers present.  Capt. Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee was born on May 14 1976 in the Islands and was a student of Chemistry at JNRM.  He joined the Army through NCC ‘C’ Certificate scheme and was promoted to the rank of Captain.  He laid down his life fighting militants in Jammu & Kashmir on 20th July 2000.  In his memory PBMC continues to maintain the park and various fruit bearing and ornamental trees have been planted there as per the directions of Chief Secretary Shri Jitendra Narain.
