Port Blair, May 10: A ceremonial parade was held to welcome the Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Mr. Neeraj Thakur, IPS at Police Line, Port Blair on 10th May 2022.
Mr. Thakur took charge of DGP, A&N Police on 09th May 2022. 06 platoons including Executive Police (Male), Executive Police (Female), Fire Service, IRBn, Police Brass Band and Pipe Band participated in the parade, which was commanded by Mr. Naveen Kumar, AC, IRBn. All senior officers, rank and file were present in the Welcome Parade.
After inspection of the Parade, Mr. Thakur, in his address, lauded the impressive march past of the Police contingents and emphasized that ‘Seva’, ‘Suraksha’ and ‘Satyanishta’ (Service, Security and Integrity) are fundamental guiding principles of Police functioning. While acknowledging the geo-strategic significance of A&N Islands and its unique set of challenges, he underlined the significance of people’s cooperation and public partnership in policing through community-based policing.
He commended the professionalism, hard work and dedication of A&N Police during the COVID-l9 pandemic and day-to-day policing. He made a specific mention of Police Stations getting the award of Best Police Station in the country for 3 consecutive years in 2018, 2019 and 2020 which is a testimony of the professional excellence of the Police force.
He stressed the need for continuous improvement and advancement through skill up-gradation, and the use of technology on a sustained basis to improve the quality of delivery of public service. Use of modern and scientific aid for investigation, safety and security of the tourist, coastal security, menace of drug abuse, crime against women and children, capacity building to deal with an emergent crime such as cyber-crime, online financial fraud are some of the priority areas for further improvement.
He exhorted the A&N Police to work hard with dedication to bring a sense of security to every person residing on these Islands. At the end of the ceremony, he interacted with the Police personnel and appreciated the endeavours of the grass-root level officers.
