Cultural Programme titled Sangeet Sandhya Organized by Akashvani, Port Blair as part of the G20 Event

Port Blair, Sep 03: A cultural programme titled ‘Sangeet Sandhya’ comprising Bhajan, Geet, Ghazal, Folk Dance, Qawwali, Patriotic Dance, Classical Song was held in the Auditorium of Tagore Govt. College of Education here this evening. The programme was organized by Akashvani, Port Blair as part of the G20 event. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, as the chief guest inaugurated the cultural evening by lighting the traditional oil lamp in the presence of the Cluster Head, Akashvani Port Blair & DDK, Dy. Director General (E), Mrs. M. Vasuki. The Chief Secretary also felicitated the artistes who presented the vibrant cultural programme.

      The colorful cultural programme presented by artistes reflected the rich cultural heritage of our country as well as the Islands. The cultural events comprised of bhajan by Bijoya Mandal, Deshbhakti dance on the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ by Srinivas & Group from ANCOL, Ghazal by K. Mammi, song by Baby Minaz, Chota Nagpur folk dance by Megapode Adivasi Group, and Nicobari folk dance by Jessie Herry & Group. Apart from this, the expressive classical song presented by Mrs. Tripti Prakash & Group and Bangla folk dance by the students of Sujata Dance Academy impressed one and all in the auditorium. The highlight of the cultural evening was the  ‘Qawwali’ presented by the artistes of ‘Sur Sangam’- a Social & Cultural Society titled ‘Ye Andaman Hamara bada hi pyara hai, depicting unity in diversity of the Islands and the role of A&N Islands in the freedom struggle history of India.

      In her welcome address, Head of Programme, AIR & DDK, Mrs. Meena Prakash informed that a series of events consisting of seminars and cultural programmes were organized by Akashvani Port Blair from August 12 as part of G20 event. Today’s Sangeet Sandhya is the culmination of the events, she said, adding that local talents were given the opportunity to perform during the events organized as part of the G20 event.

     The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by News Editor, Akashvani, Mr. Gaurav Patwal.
