Anaemia Detection Camp to Girl Students of JNRM on the occasion of “POSHAN Maah” by JNRM Home Science Department and Health Department

Port Blair, Sept 08: The Department of Home Science, JNRM in collaboration with the Directorate of Health, A & N Administration organised a Anaemia Detection Camp to Girl Students of JNRM on the occasion of “POSHAN Maah”. The camp was held on 6th September 2019 at JNRM Girls Hostel.

 

On first Phase, altogether 150 inmates of JNRM Girls Hostel were screened by the technicians of Health Department. It was followed by Nutrition Counselling by Ms.R.S.Reshma, Ms.Nikita Barla, Ms.B.Shanthini, and Ms.Kamini, of IInd B.Sc Home Science through Powerpoint Presentation with live demonstration. The presentation covered in detail about Anaemia, its types, causes, consequences and ill effects, the foods rich in iron and its absorption.

 

The students of Home Science also discussed with the inmates of JNRM Girls Hostel the importance of healthy food in our routine and exhorted them to say “No” to Junk foods. Dr.N.Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM appreciated and congratulated the students for exchanging knowledge of their own domain to their counterparts of other department.

 

The camp was organised by Dr.K.Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & HoD, Department of Home Science who spoke on the importance of Girls students  and their pivotal role in bringing change in choosing the right foods at household and community level. Smt.Vasanthi Devi, Health Education Officer and her team did the Anaemia Screening.
