CS Launches Improvised Visible Mobile Patrol Team ‘Satark’ of A&N Police

Port Blair, Dec 30: Giving more impetus to patrolling and better presence of Mobile Police Team in the Isles, the A&N Police launched the improvised Visible Mobile Patrol Team named ‘Satark’ (Alert) here yesterday. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Chetan B. Sanghi as the chief guest flagged off the Mobile Patrol Team from Andaman Club in the presence of the Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Mr. Dependra Pathak, PCCF Mr. Tarun Coomar and other senior Police Officers.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Chief Secretary expressed happiness on the launch of ‘Satark’ and lauded the efforts of A&N Police for upgrading the patrolling in the Islands. He further said that such modern initiatives by the A&N Police will instil greater confidence amongst the citizens.
Conceptualized by DGP, A&N Police and executed by SP (HQ), Mr. Jatin Narwal, and SP (Fire), Smt. Amrutha Guguloth, this scheme equips the A&N Patrol Motorcycles at par with the metropolitan police patrols like Delhi and Hyderabad.
Under this project, currently 25 motorcycles of the A&N Police have been modified to accommodate the daily policing requirements in view of the topography and the increasing public and tourist footfall at various locations in the Islands.
The word ‘Satark’ means “to be alert, to stand guard and be watchful”. As the word aptly suggests, the staff on the motorcycle performs duties from patrolling, maintaining law and order, crime control in a more effective, visible and swift manner. This will improve the accessibility and easy conveyance with quicker response time in the narrow lanes of towns as well as the far-flung areas of the Islands as Satark is being introduced in all three districts. Each Satark motorcycle will be equipped with hand held walkie-talkie connected with Police Control Room and will receive distress calls through this mode.
