N&M Andaman, Mar 08: The International Women’s Day -2019 was celebrated in a befitting manner in all the tehsils on N&MA District. In Mayabunder, the programme was organized by District Child Protection unit, North & Middle Andaman district at Zilla Parishad community hall, Mayabunder wherein women from all walks of life, Self Help Group, ASHA workers, ICDS functionaries, PRI members, women officer from different departments, and general public participated. Deputy Commissioner, N&MA district Mr. Awanish Kumar, IAS was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Earlier an all women rally was conducted from helipad to Zilla Parishad community hall via Play Ground, Mayabunder aimed at commemorating the achievements and contribution of the women in the Society. It also highlighted the general inequalities relevant in the society, the right of the women and the hope for a gender balanced world.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest highlighted the importance of the theme of International Women’s Day -2019 i.e., “BALANCE FOR BETTER”- ‘a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world’ and focused on collective action and shared responsibility towards the pursuit of gender-equal society. Various speeches on issues like Women Empowerment, Health & Hygiene, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and One Stop Centre, etc. was delivered by the invitees from different departments.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by the counsellor of District Child Protection Unit, N&MA District, Mayabunder, Smt. Swapna to all present and different departments who had contributed for making the event success, said District Child Protection Officer, O/o the Deputy Commissioner, DCPU, N&MA District, Mayabunder.
