Field day on “Importance of deworming in livestock” by ICAR-CIARI

Port Blair, Mar 20: A field day on “Importance of deworming in livestock” was organized at Coffee Bagicha, South Andaman on 16th Mar, 2019 under the project “AICRP on Goat Improvement”. A total of 24 farmers including 20 farm women participated in this programme. Dr. B. Gangaiah, Director (I/C), ICAR-CIARI was the chief guest of the programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Arun. K. De, Dr. K. Muniswamy, Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. D. Bhattacharya, Dr. M. S. Kundu, Dr. T. Sujatha, Dr. P. A. Bala, Dr. P. Perumal, Dr. R. R. Alyethodi and Dr. S. K. Ravi of Animal Science Division.

In his address, Dr. B. Gangaiah highlighted the importance of goat farming for livelihood and urged the farmers to get maximum benefits from such type of programme by ICAR-CIARI. Dr. D. Bhattacharya explained about the ill effects of parasite infestation and importance of deworming in different livestock. Dr. Jai Sunder explained about advantages of goat farming, selection of superior bucks and scientific management of goats. Dr. M. S. Kundu and Dr. P. A. Bala detailed about nutritional management, balanced feeding and deworming in livestock species. Dr. T. Sujatha explained about poultry nutrition and deworming in poultry. Dr. Arun. K. De explained about the conservation and health management of goat and other livestock. Dr. K. Muniswamy explained about importance of deworming in goat and other livestock.

At the end, deworming was demonstrated in goats and precautions to be followed during deworming were shown. At last, mineral mixtures and health tonics were distributed to the farmers for better growth and health of livestock. The farmers expressed their happiness for the informative lectures, demonstration of deworming and for the distribution of mineral mixtures and health tonics, said S.K.
