Member of Parliament highlights Crucial Problems of Champin Village of Nancowry Island

Port Blair, Apr 06: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has highlighted some crucial issues of Champin Village of Nancowry Island with the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and requested immediate action.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the Member of Parliament mentioned that people of the region are suffering heavily due to frequent power outages. He added that the entire region is dependent on one single DG Set, which is very old and hence there are often power cuts due to repair and maintenance of the said DG Set. Recently due to repair works of the DG set, there was no power in the entire area for nearly two days.

He pointed out that the road leading to the permanent shelter area of the Champin region is also in very pathetic shape. The road also suffered damages due to landslides in some areas. The village also requires road widening for proper movement of vehicles and public.

Most importantly the villagers have informed that the GSSS Champin building is also in dilapidated shape and there is an acute shortage of desks and benches for students. Situation is so bad that students have to sit on the floor in most of the classes, the Member of Parliament added.

Considering the genuine issue of the region, the Member of Parliament has requested the Chief Secretary to provide an additional DG Set for Champin region of Nancowry Island so that the second DG Set works as alternative power back up and power supply unit.

He has also requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary directions to the concerned department to repair the road leading to the permanent shelter area of Champin village.

The Member of Parliament added that there is also a need to immediately repair the school building of GSSS Champin and provide sufficient desks and benches for the students.
