South Andaman Police Seizes Over Rs. 7.81 Lakh for Violation of Model Code of Conduct, Total 15.39 Lakhs So Far

Port Blair, Apr 08: In order to ensure free and fair election, the South Andaman Police is working diligently to enforce the Model Code of Conduct. Acting on specific inputs, various teams of the district Police have seized cash amounting over Rs. 7.81 Lakh from 06/04/2019 to 08/04/2019.

On receipt of credible information that two persons are carrying huge amount of cash and going towards VIP road & Gandhi Statue respectively, two teams of PS Aberdeen were formed under Inspr. Sanjay Kumar, SHO PS Aberdeen. The first team comprising HC Zubair, PC Cristopher & Eleziba and the second team comprising SI P Jeevan alongwith PC Nandita Mistry & Mini Tigga rushed to the spots and intercepted both the persons and on checking, an amount of Rs. 60,000/- and Rs. 1,16,500/- respectively were recovered. On inquiry, both the persons failed to satisfactorily explain the source and purpose of carrying such amount of cash.

Further, on receipt of credible information at PS Humfrygunj, the team headed by SI Aditya Narayan, SHO PS Humfrygunj along with SI P.C. Manickam, HC N. K. K. Kerketta, PC Mercy & Umavathy seized an amount of Rs. 2,04,560/- from Dhanikhari junction.

Similarly, the team of PS Pahargaon headed by Insp. A. K. Singh, SHO PS Pahargaon and consisting of SI Shubam Ghosh, SI Mariam, SI Dinesh Meena & HC Mustafa seized an amount of Rs. 4,00,000/-  from Bathubasthi junction.

The entire operation took place under the direction of SDPO (SA) Mr. Nishant Gupta & SDPO (Bambooflat) Mr. Manoj Kr. Meena, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District said in a press release.
