Zoological Museum cum Philatelic Exhibition Inaugurated

Port Blair, Oct 05: As part of the wildlife week celebration, a two days Zoological Museum cum Philatelic exhibition connected with wildlife preservation was jointly organized by The Nature Club, Department of Zoology, JNRM and Department of Environment and Forests, ANI. The chief guest, Dr. N. Francis Xavier, Principal JNRM, Guest of honor Dr. S. Jaya Kumar, Principal, ANCOL, inaugurated the exhibition and stressed upon the need to conserve the rich fauna for humankind and appreciate students effort. Dr. Vivek Kumar Sahu, Assistant Professor & Chairman of The Nature Club mentioned that wildlife habitat is being destroyed at an alarming rate in recent times due to mainly anthropogenic activities.
The exhibition aims to spread the message of wildlife conservation and protection of the endangered and endemic species of these islands and also creating awareness and interest among the new generation for the protection of flora and fauna. The exhibition was organized in various sections comprising of different types of rare collection of butterflies of Dr. T.C. Khatri. Stamp collections of Ms. Geeta on rare and endemic species of ANI along with endangered species of various vertebrate and invertebrate from the rest of the Bharat and world. Special attraction among the masses was alive snakes, King Cobra, Andaman Pit Viper and Rat snake. Exhibition is open for all till 01:00 hrs, 6th October 2018, in the Department of Zoology, JNRM, Port Blair.
