South Andaman Police Seizes Over Rs. 6.5 Lakh for Violation of Model Code of Conduct

Port Blair, Apr 05: In order to ensure free and fair election, the South Andaman Police is working diligently to enforce the Model Code of Conduct. Acting on specific inputs, various teams of the district Police have seized cash amounting over Rs. 6.5 Lakh.

On receipt of credible information, PS Humfrygunj team headed by SI Aditya Narayan, SHO PS Humfrygunj along with ASI Amit, PC Aurangazeb & Sini Raju seized an amount of nearly Rs. 57,000 from Sippighat junction and Rs. Rs.3,00,000/- from Manglutan junction.

On receipt of information that one person is carrying huge amount of cash and going towards Gandhi Statue, Aberdeen Bazar, the team of PS Aberdeen headed by Inspr. Sanjay Kumar, SHO PS Aberdeen along with SI P. Jeevan and other staff rushed to the spot and intercepted the person. On checking, the person was found to be carrying 2 Lakhs rupees in his hand in a cover. On inquiry he failed to satisfactorily explain the source and purpose of carrying such amount of cash.

Similarly, the team of PS Ograbraj headed by Insp. K. Binoj, SHO PS Ograbraj and consisting of SI Someshwar Rao, HC Ram Nag & PC Beronica Kumari seized Rs. 1,00,000 from a person near Tushnabad junction.

The entire operation took place under the direction of SDPO (SA) Mr. Nishant Gupta and SDPO (Bambooflat) Mr. Manoj Kumar Meena under the supervision of Mr. Deepak Yadav, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.

The Andaman Nicobar Police is keeping strict vigil on all Anti-Social activities in connection with the ensuing General Election. Hence, the general public is requested to pass any information with Police without any hesitation/loss of time to 112, 100, 03192-232100 & 03192-232400 for swift action. The identity of the informer will be kept secret, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District said in a press release.
