Consumer awareness program held at Hut Bay

Hut Bay, May 05:  A consumer awareness program was held at Farm tekri, Hut Bay recently. Justice Asim kumar Ray, President State Commission, Smti.Biji Thomas & Dr.Dinesh, Members of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission conducted the programme in co-ordination with Civil supplies department. Mr. Rajesh, Registrar-cum- Deputy Director (CS &CA) were there for the smooth conduct of the program. Smti M.Pappi Naidu, Pradhan Hut Bay, Mr. Vasudevan Nair, Member Zilla Parishad, Biju Varghese Executive Engineer.Dr Ummar, Sr.veternary officer, Mr. Mishra SHO , Smti Bindu Raghunath Agricultural officer were also present.

Dr.Dinesh, Member ,State Commission,spoke about the consumer rights and how to file complaints in the District/State/National Commission, Smti.Biji Thomas spoke regarding consumer protection act.

The general public complained about the goods or products being sold to them by shop keepers more than MRP(Maximum Retail Price) to which president state commission said if documentary evidence like receipt is produced and a case is filed by the complainant we can take action and few people also complained about the expiry products sold to them, for this the Deputy Director of civil supplies department said will take action against the shop keepers if the complaint is genuine.

This is for the first time such an awareness camp is held at Little Andaman. More such awareness camp should be held regularly in future said the general public who attended the programme.

Justice Asim Kumar Ray also interacted with the audience in Bengali, Hindi & English, and answered a volley of questions, Justice Asim Kumar Ray said councillors should be appointed in Inter Islands,  so that general public are sensitized  about the consumer rights and their genuine problems can be addressed to the appropriate  consumer forum.The programme was compered by Uman Khan of civil supplies Department.
