DGP Presided Over Valediction Ceremony Of Capacity Building Programme for Women Police Officers

Port Blair, Oct 24: Andaman & Nicobar Police, in collaboration with National Commission for Women, has organized three-days Capacity Building Programme from 22nd to 24th October, 2019 for women Police officers at Police Training School, Prothrapur, so as to empower them with the required professionalism, in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes, for dealing with the cases of violence against women. The Valediction Ceremony of the programme was held on 24.10.2019 at PTS in which Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, was the Chief Guest. Inspector General of Police, Headquarters, Shri Sanjay Kumar, IPS, all Superintendents Police, Deputy Superintendents of Police, Station House Officers and Women Police Officers also attended the valedictory session.

Addressing the gathering, the Inspector General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, stated that there is a need for greater sensitivity in handling the victims of crime against women and a professional approach for investigating these cases. He expressed satisfaction that this programme has provided a useful platform to the participants to learn the nuances of investigation related to crime against women and to share their problems and difficulties in the investigation of sensitive cases. He also stated that there is a need for close co-ordination between Police, Social Welfare Department and Family Courts for ensuring effective handing of such crimes. He acknowledged the support of National Commission for Women in sponsoring this programme. He also appreciated and complimented the efforts of entire team of Police Training School for organizing this programme.

Earlier, in the beginning, Ms. Usha Rangnani, IPS, Principal, Police Training School, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the key elements of the programme. This course curriculum of this Capacity Building Programme was so designed so as to equip the women police officers with the ability to perform their duties effectively and professionally for ensuring the protection of women’s rights and addressing the challenges related to women safety. The important subjects that were covered in this training programme were investigation of crime against women, crime scene investigation, forensic medicine and post mortem examinations, scientific interrogation techniques, mobile forensics and digital evidence, cybercrime and cyber security,  recent amendments in laws related to crime against women and behavioural techniques for dealing with victims and complainants of crime against women. Experts from the field and specialists in subjects have taken Lectures on these topics and given their valuable inputs for building the proficiency of women police personnel for investigating the cases of crime against women.

Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), Superintendent of Police/South Andaman, Superintendent of Police (CID), Superintendent of Police (Security), SDPO/South Andaman, SDPO/Bambooflat, Ld. Sr. Assistant Public Prosecutor, Director National Information Centre, Doctor from Andaman Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Science, In-charge Forensic Science Laboratory and Station House Officers were among others who delivered talks and lectures during this programme. A total of 44 participants have benefitted from the programme.
