Animal Welfare Fortnight – 14th January to 30th January

It gives me immense pleasure and happiness to learn that ‘Animal Welfare Fortnight’ is being observed in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from the 14th to 30th January 2020 along with the rest of the country. The Animal Welfare Fortnight is celebrated to create awareness in the civic society to treat all animal life with respect, kindness and compassion.

Animals have contributed immensely for the welfare of human beings from the dawn of civilization. The animals play an important role in the environment. The sustainable development of any society is not possible without taking into account their role and contribution. Our country has always preached and practiced the values of Ahimsa towards all living beings. It is required to practice these values in our day to day life. It is the obligation of human beings not to abuse and exploit animals for their greed. Even during the present times, it is all the more important that we human beings learn to co-exist with the animals and it is our moral duty to see that the animals are treated humanely and with compassion. The adherence to animal welfare principles will have significant positive impact on the society.

My best wishes for the ‘Animal Welfare Fortnight’ celebration.
