Port Blair, Mar 30: Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development that aims to skill the underserved, rural youth to provide them with a regular source of income.
DDU-GKY is a skilling and placement initiative to “transform rural poor youth into an economically independent and globally relevant workforce”.
The programme was uniquely conducted to orient the rural youth about features and benefits of the scheme. On creation of a database, special counselling sessions will be conducted with the potential candidates for successful implementation of the scheme. The rural youths were urged to avail the benefits of the scheme for the betterment of their livelihood. This scheme connects trained individuals with job opportunities within and outside the UT. The implementation of this scheme across the UT will lead to the overall development of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Economically backward youth of rural areas will be given skill development residential mode of training along with other required facilities free of cost after the candidates are selected through mobilization, aptitude test, and counselling by the Project Implementing Agencies.
An awareness-cum-mobilization programme was conducted at Ferrargunj Block on 17th March, 2021 under the South Andaman District by the DDU-GKY at UT level with the support of officials of respective Block. In this program, Block Development Officer, Extension Officer, Village Level Workers, Gram Sevikas, Data Entry Operator (NRLM), Community Resource Persons (NRLM), Gram Rozgar Sevaks (MGNREGA), etc. and Multi-Tasking Staff from respective Gram Panchayat under Ferrargunj Block and the representatives from the Project Implementing Agency enthusiastically took part in the mobilization drive.
The salient features as per the guidelines of the scheme were explained to the gathering. A healthy discussion was also held with the participants. Such awareness programme shall be organized in all the Gram Panchayats also in order to ensure mobilization of each households of the rural areas.
