Member of Parliament demands land inside G B Pant Hospital Campus to construct 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for male patient-attendants and 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for female patient-attendants

Port Blair, Jul 05: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to provide a piece of land to construct 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for male patient-attendants and 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for female patient-attendants inside G B Pant Campus, under MPLADS fund.

            In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration the Member of Parliament mentioned that he has a proposal to construct 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for male patient-attendants and 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for female patient-attendants inside G B Pant Hospital Campus, under MPLADS funds.

            He pointed out that patients and attendants, who are visiting Port Blair for treatment from Middle & North Andaman and Nicobar District have to pay heavily for lodging and transportation at Port Blair. He pointed out that most of them are very poor people and G B Pant Hospital is the only referral hospital.

            The Member of Parliament added that the poor attendants have to stay at lodges and have to pay for their transportation, lodging and boarding daily to see the patients.

            He mentioned that the 150 bedded accommodation, which will provide free accommodation to the attendants will be very helpful for both patients and attendants for treatment and it will also help in curtailing the up and down transportation cost of attendants.

            In this regard, the Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to allot a piece of land behind the Burns Ward, Nursing Home or behind Mortuary inside G B Pant Hospital Complex for the above mentioned work for “Construction of 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for male patient-attendants and 75 bedded free dormitory accommodations for female patient-attendants”, to be sanctioned under MPLADS, so that the work can be quickly sanctioned and the general public, especially people from far-flung area can reap the benefit as soon as possible.
