A&N Police Destroys Massive Quantity of Seized Drugs

Port Blair, Apr 16: In the run up to Lok Sabha Polls on April 19, and in our commitment to make the Islands Drug Free with the help of all stakeholders and in pursuance of the directions of Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal-Vs-Union of India and Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances  (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal) Rules 2022, drug disposal for multiple case properties from various police stations was initiated at 1000 hrs on 16/04/2024 by the CID Unit under the supervision of the UT Level Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Mrs. Varsha Sharma (IPS), DIGP (L&O). The committee members included Mr. Rajeev Ranjan (IPS), SP(CID), Mr.. Mohd. Irshad Haider, (IPS), SP(HQ), and Kumar Abhishek, DySP (CID) along with the Officers from the A&N Pollution Control Board, Enviro Check (for measuring emitting pollutants), and GB Pant Hospital.

A total of 97 case properties were destroyed, comprising of 79 Kgs of Ganja, 13.63 Kgs of Methamphetamine, 29 Cannabis Plants, 07 gm Charas, 22 bottles of Codeine based syrup and 255 tablets of Nitrazepam & Alprazolam which were destroyed in the incinerator at G.B.Pant Hospital as per the orders of Courts. Entire destruction process was videographed and was completed adopting all the legal and procedural aspects. 

It is worth mentioning that in the run up to elections, the Andaman and Nicobar Police is undertaking strict action against drug menace in these Islands and this drug disposal exercise also symbolizes the unwavering commitment to a drug-free community and for ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections.
