Member of Parliament demands to shift Oxygen plant far away from ICU and other wards of G. B. Pant Hospital

Port Blair, Jan 07: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary to shift the Oxygen Plant far away from ICU Ward or any other wards of G B Pant Hospital so that patients get rid of constant sound produced by the Oxygen plant.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the oxygen plant situated just behind the ICU ward has been generating constant and unbearable noise throughout the day. This noise disturbance is causing unbearable distress to the patients in the ICU as well as those in the nearby wards.

“Understanding the critical nature of the ICU environment, where patients require absolute tranquillity for a speedy recovery, the persistent noise from the oxygen plant is proving to be a constant obstacle to maintaining a peaceful state of mind. This issue has been particularly challenging for patients who are already coping with the stress of their medical conditions,” he added.

While acknowledging the urgency of establishing the oxygen plant during the Covid period, he said that this is a good time to reconsider its location.

Given that the threat from Covid has been minimized, he requested the Chief Secretary to relocate the oxygen plant away from the ICU and any other patient wards in GB Pant Hospital.
