Mock Fire Drill onboard vessel MV Sentinel

Port Blair, July 28:  As a part of Disaster preparedness, the Directorate of Shipping Services has conducted a Mock Fire Drill onboard Departmental vessel MV. Sentinel presently docked at New Dry Dock, Marine Dockyard on 27/07/2019 at 1000 hrs. This Mock Fire Drill was conducted by the Directorate in coordination with the Police Fire Services, Port Blair and Andaman Lakshdweep Harbour Works, Port Blair. In the Mock Drill, the scenario of major fire was replicated onboard MV Sentinel which was tackled and eliminated within a span of 45 minutes approximately.

 

Immediately on activation of emergency fire alarm by MV Sentinel, all personnel’s following the Standard Operating Procedure,  were vacated from ship. Simultaneously, the fire fighting was started by the ship personnel which was subsequently supported by ground supporting including Fire Brigade, Fire Police Services of Andaman & Nicobar Police, the team of Disaster Management of DSS and Andaman Lakshdweep Harbour Works. The entire Mock Drill was closely witnessed and carried under direct supervision of the Director(Shipping Services)In Charge, Mr. R. Veeriah efficiently coordinated by Mr. Mahinder Singh, Nodal Officer(Disaster Management).

A debriefing session which also included demonstration of different type of fire extinguisher and different procedure to be followed during emergency was briefed by the Technical Superintendent Mr. Aqeeb Azeem alongwith the officials of Police Fire Services, which was attended by the all staff of the vessel MV Sentinal and Marine Dockyard personnel’s. Few suggestions which were raised were noted and necessary corrective actions was incorporated in Standard Operating Procedure (SOP’s) of DSS.
