Andaman witnesses rain much before arrival of Monsoon due to Low Pressure formation

Port Blair, May 06: Much before the arrival date of Monsoon, several regions of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today witnessed medium to heavy rain due to low pressure, which has formed over South Andaman Sea.

According to India Meteorological Department the Low Pressure Area over South Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a Depression by evening of 07th and further into a cyclonic storm by evening of 08th May, 2022.

“Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea, a Low Pressure Area has formed over South Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to move northwestwards, intensify into a Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal by 07th evening and further into a cyclonic storm over eastcentral Bay of Bengal by 08th May evening. It is very likely to continue to move northwestwards and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra-Odisha coasts by 10th May,” a release from IMD said here today.

According to the IMD forecast Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during 06th-07th May.

Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has advised all fishermen not to venture into Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal during 6th-8th May. Meanwhile, due to prevailing adverse weather conditions, the Directorate of Andaman’s Shipping Services has cancelled and suspended schedules of various vessels, keeping in view the safety of the passengers and the vessels.
