Inauguration of Eco-tourism site at Panchawati

Port Blair, Jun 28: An Eco-tourism site developed at Panchawati was inaugurated and put open to the General Public/Tourists on 28th June 2022 by Mr. Satyaprakash Singh IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Middle Andaman in the presence of PRIs, Officers and Staffs of Betapur Range & General Public.

            The Middle Andaman Forest Division, Department of Environment & Forests developed an Eco-Tourism site at Panchawati locally known as “Japan Jetty”. With the theme of “An Epitome of Nature’s Beauty”, it is blessed with drop-dead gorgeous beaches with patches of Coral reefs and alluring cyan waters.

            Eco-Tourism facilities developed at the site include Eco –huts; Eco benches; Eco-friendly beach chairs; Eco-friendly Changing Rooms & Toilets; Children’s Miniature Park; Sea-saws; Swings; Eco-friendly dustbins made from wood, discarded plastic bottles and tyres; Cafeteria; and a unique initiative of Open-Air Library, where tourist and General Public can enjoy reading the books in the lap of nature. The Open-Air Library is created to inculcate the reading habits among the youths of Middle Andaman.

            A book bank has also been created where those willing to donate any used/unused books can drop them in the book bank box provided at the site. Books received in the book bank will be given to the needy free of cost. Eco-friendly structures such as Motorcycle and Rocking horses carved out from the waste wood are the biggest attraction of the site, especially for children.
