South Andaman District makes face mask mandatory following increase in COVID-19 cases

Port Blair, July 04:  The South Andaman District Administration today made it mandatory to maintain COVID-19 appropriate behaviour at public places and also made it mandatory to wear face mask/covers in South Andaman District with immediate effect.

An official order regarding these restrictions was issued by Suneel Anchipaka, the District Magistrate, South Andaman District today.

“Consequent upon the rise in the number of positive cases of COVID-19 and evolving scenario in mainland as well in these Islands, it is hereby directed that all persons should maintain COVID appropriate behaviour at public places and shall henceforth compulsorily wear face mask/covers in South Andaman District with immediate effect from 05.07.2022 till further orders as a measure to contain the further spread of virus,” the official order said today.

All Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Executive Magistrates, Revenue officials of the rank of Patwari and above, Sanitary Inspectors of the PBMC, Panchayat Secretaries of the RD department, Food Safety Officers, GST Tax Inspectors and police personnel of the rank of the constable and above have been directed to ensure and enforce the same in letter and spirit.

Till last report poured in there are altogether 40 active COVID-19 cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Since March 2020 altogether 10183 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Andaman and Nicobar Islands out of which 10014 people have recovered. Total 129 deaths have been reported in Andaman due to COVID-19.
