SCOD visits Defence establishments under ANC

Port Blair, Apr 27: The Standing Committee on Defence (SCOD) visited various defense facilities on the second day of the two-day visit to the Andaman & Nicobar Command on 24th April 2022.

            The SCOD visited Birchgunj Military Station and witnessed a Jungle Survival Demonstration. The members were introduced to various survival and adaptability techniques important for Jungle warfare.

            Highlights of the demonstration included techniques of preparing traps and shelters, the art of identification of edible plants and fruits, collection and storage of potable water, handling of poisonous snakes and other reptiles in the jungle and various improvised cooking techniques. The demonstration was greatly appreciated by the Committee.

            Later in the afternoon, the SCOD visited Floating Dock Navy-2 (FDN-2), which is a unique and strategic docking asset of Andaman and Nicobar Command.

            The committee was apprised of the capabilities of FDN-2, which has emerged as a workhorse in the field of ship repairs. Lunch was also hosted by the Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command in the honour of the SCOD members.

            During the evening, the Committee visited the historic NSCB Dweep under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command. The Dweep was the erstwhile capital of British penal settlement and is steeped in colonial history. The Island has also stood as a silent sentinel over the years and continues to guard the seaward approaches to Port Blair harbor
